“Employment of veterinarians is projected to grow 20 percent from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations”

Someday, you’re going to want to retire.....
So,WHAT DO WE DO?

the goal
VetPup Learning Academy and VetCamp! has the goal of taking every young person that says, “I want to be a vet when I grow up” and giving them a real-world look into the available career options in veterinary medicine. Kids and Teen VetCamp! are taught in working veterinary clinics, by professionals that have boots-on-the-ground experience of what it takes to take care of animals. Kids and Teen VetCamp! are built and designed by veterinary professionals to be taught by veterinary professionals. By building curriculum and educational camp models VetPup takes the work out of creating workbooks, lesson plans and setting up camps, allowing veterinarians and their staff to simply purchase, download and teach.
“ Inspiring the next generation of veterinary professionals.”
the inspiration
When the idea of a kids or teen vet camp came up, we thought, "There is no way we have time or can afford to host such an adventure" as an independent veterinary clinic. As the mother of five children, I knew just about every kid wants to "be a vet" when they grow up. The target audience existed and was waiting for opportunity, guidance, and inspiration.
In my 25-plus years as a veterinary professional, I have witnessed a great exodus of employees in our industry. Many people who had entered veterinary medicine are sadly, now leaving disillusioned.
The issue of employee turnover in our industry is a pressing, industry-wide problem. As a solitary practice manager, it may seem overwhelming to tackle. But, as Edward Everest Hale once said, "I can't do all things, but I can do something." The day I had a potential employee walk in to an interview totally unprepared for veterinary medicine, I realized we can do better at preparing the next generation. And that's when the idea of Vet Camp! and VetPup Learning Academy was born. By hosting a VetCamp!, you're providing a fun learning experience for kids and addressing a critical issue in our industry.
Do you have two veterinary staff willing to hang out with some middle schoolers or high schoolers for a few hours in the evening? Then you, too, can do this! On some level, you can do something!
Imagine the impact you could make by hosting a VetCamp! in your area. We've meticulously crafted the curriculum, workbooks, planners, diagrams, shopping lists, and more, all ready for you to purchase and offer as VetCamp! to your local youth. As a veterinary professional, you understand the importance of real-world experiences in shaping the next generation. By hosting a VetCamp!, you're not just investing in the future of veterinary medicine, but also in your own legacy. We're here to support you every step of the way, helping you inspire and nurture the next generation of veterinary professionals!

There are measurable financial merits to camp.
I love this! How do I talk my Practice Owner into hosting a VetCamp!?
Let’s be honest. While we would all love to provide camp for the purely altruistic idea of raising up the next generation of campers, your practice manager or owner is going to be looking at the bottom line. While it is impossible to measure the goodwill and community connection that offering VetCamp! will bring to your business, there are some measurable financial merits to camp. Most youth camps run two hours for three to five days a week in summer. You do the math. If you host 8 - 12 campers even once a month during summer, the benefits can add up quickly. Especially as you meet the ROI on any equipment or digital content you purchased initially.
We are a very busy clinic. Can we still host a VetCamp?
You have time to raise up your replacements so someday you can retire! I get the busy part. With more veterinarians retiring and leaving the industry, those veterinary professionals left are also left with twice the work and four times the fatigue. So start small.
Plan just one or two camps this summer. Plan it in the evenings after hours. Ask staff to volunteer to teach. Pair up with another clinic nearby and team teach. Watch the excitement of young minds learning new things reignite your energy for the medicine that got you into this industry in the first place.

We can do better at preparing the next generation.
Even a single doctor practice can
inspire.
We are a small clinic. Can we really make a difference?
You CAN! When the idea of Vet Camp came to me, I thought, “There is no way we can afford to host such an adventure”. As the mother of five children, I knew just about every kid wants to “be a vet” when they grow up. I could also see the opposite end of this in the great exodus of people in veterinary medicine leaving disillusioned.
This is very much a multi-pronged national industry problem, and one that a solitary practice manager has no hopes of solving. But, to paraphrase Edward Everest Hale, “I can’t do all things, but I can do something.” The day I had a potential employee walk in to an interview totally unprepared for veterinary medicine, I thought, “We can do better at preparing the next generation”. And Vet Camp was born.
Even a single doctor practice can inspire a few of the next generation of veterinary professionals.
I’m not a teacher. Can I still figure this out?
You don’t have to be a teacher! And we already figured out the entire curriculum. You are literally presenting what you do, on the job, every day.
If we want to truly raise up the next generation of veterinary professionals, we realized, we needed to offer more than just how to make slime in the shape of a dog.
The curriculum is broken down into five sections that you already know, because it is what you already do - every day!
In fun, colorful, engaging ways! Paired with your energy and experience, the next generation will be exposed to the real life of veterinary medicine.
You don’t have to be a teacher! You are literally presenting what you do, on the job, every day!
Most clinics can use the equipment they have on hand, or DIY some items for teaching purposes.
Do we need to buy more equipment than just the VetCamp! Kit?
That is up to you. The kits give you digital access to the complete workbooks, curriculum, advertising fliers, planners, sign in and out sheets, games, ice breakers and activities. As digital downloads, you will send these to the printer of your choice, but will own the right to use them for camps again and again in your own clinic.
Most clinics can use the equipment they have on hand, or DIY some items for teaching purposes.
Need stethoscopes? Buy some for camp, or use the ones you have in-house for staff use.
We recommend purchasing a 4D Anatomy model for every 2 campers to use (and reuse) for future camps. For older campers, you may choose to use a necropsy model or upload some of the coloring pages we provide and use those instead.
You can purchase student-grade microscopes, or borrow them from local schools. Or just use the one(s) you have in-house, especially if you have display capability.
Want to do the suturing activity with your campers? You can purchase suture pads online, or simply stuff socks with fabric, or cut an orange skin and practice on those.
Camp can be as involved or as inexpensive as you choose!
